Find your project participation tools

Participation tools can be added to a project to encourage participants to engage and collaborate on projects. To view the participation tools available on District Engage:

  1. In the left-hand menu bar, click Projects. This displays a list of all existing projects that you have access to.
  2. Click on a project to open it.
  3. In the project sub-menu, under Participation, see an overview of the participation tools available via District Engage.

Available participation tools

Here is an overview of participation tools available:

​Surveys​ Generate simple or complex survey forms to gather qualitative and quantitative data quickly and easily
​Polls A poll is a simple and direct way to ask people for their opinions about an issue or ideas
​Idea boards​ An idea board is a consultation tool that allow people to share their idea about a specific topic (board).
Map feedback A map feedback tool allows the community add feedback to a project by pinning their comments on specific locations on a map.Click here for more information on when to best use what tool.

Unpublish a participation tool

Note: This process can be followed for any participation tool.

You can unpublish individual participation tools from a project without affecting the other content. The tool will be automatically removed from anywhere it is currently displayed or linked to.

To unpublish a participation tool:

  1. Navigate to an existing project.
  2. In the project sub-menu, under Participation, click on the type of participation tool you’d like to unpublish. This will display all the participation tools of that type that already exist for this project.
  3. On the tool you want to unpublish, click on the ellipsis at the end of the row.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. At the top right of the screen are your publishing options. Choose Unpublished from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click Confirm.

 

Delete a participation tool

Note: This process can be followed for any participation tool.

You can delete a participation tool from a project if it is no longer needed, or was created by mistake. This permanently removes the tool and all its content and cannot be undone. Proceed with caution!

Note: you may not have delete permissions as part of your role. If you have any questions about your permissions, contact your District Engage administrator.

To delete a participation tool:

  1. Navigate to an existing project.
  2. In the project sub-menu, under Participation, click on the type of participation tool you’d like to delete. This shows all the participation tools of that type that already exist for this project.
  3. On the tool you want to delete, click on the ellipsis at the end of the row.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. You’ll be prompted with a warning to confirm the action. Click Yes, Delete this [Poll].
  6. Your participation tool is now deleted.

 

Close submissions for a participation tool

Note: This process can be followed for any participation tool.

You can end a participation tools from a project without affecting other content. This will prevent further submissions while keeping existing submissions accessible.

To close submissions for a participation tool:

  1. Navigate to an existing project.
  2. In the project sub-menu, under Participation, click on the type of participation tool you’d like to close submissions for. This shows all the participation tools of that type that already exist for this project.
  3. On the tool you want to close submissions for, click on the ellipsis at the end of the row.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. At the right side of the screen, under Advanced settings, set the End date to the current date and time or to a future date and time when you want the submissions to end.
  6. Click Save.

After setting the end date, the participation tool will no longer accept new submissions as per the specified date and time.
